my daughter is chasing the divine
like her mother chased birds
in the springtime
maybe they’ll find each other
in a cellar
one with the cosmos
in her gums
and the other with an owl
gripping tight on a leather band
I’m chasing my feet
running at night
smoking in the morning
missing all the things
that make up desire
my daughter has the eyes
of a mountainside cleared away
by summer storms and rain
a brown that changes color
when the lights shift
