She likes it when he goes to bed with her. He tries to do it a couple of nights a week. He can’t sleep, he keeps coughing. He twirls a toothpick while he watches television on the couch. Sometimes she doesn’t know if it makes a difference. I’m so tired by the time I get to bed, I don’t even notice he’s there. Eyemask on, eyes closed and I’m gone. The girls laugh at that one. She laughs less and less.
