1116
two cities north
a hangman bit through the rope
let the rascal run free
laughing as he was pulled
from the makeshift stand
creaking in the square
in prison
he watches his hair
circle the drain
and thinks of the man
he let loose
then he laughs
and slips and is carried
soaking wet to his cell
when eating lunch
the hangman
waves a fly away
from his plate
then states silently
as it resets itself on his food
well he sticks out a finger
and watches it fly away
only to return
and he laughs
–
two cities west
the rascal
young man
loses until he’s
light on his feet
fainting at a strip club
now he’s running
the young man
light on his feet
says anything will do
orders a drink
and asks for compensation
is that all you’ve got
now he’s running
the rascal
light on his feet
says he can’t take it no more
steals his father’s station
wagon and drives into a tree
then he’s out
and running
–
just running
just running
